ARTPOP is by far the most musically interesting and different track on the album, so it makes sense that they'd promo it even if it isn't single material. It's a Gaga that the GP doesn't know anything about, which could help album sales in the long run.

Are there any major award shows or anything coming up? As flawless as the performance was, she needs to come back in a big way with GUY.

ARTPOP actually could've been single material if it had a different title and she didn't actually mention "ARTPOP"

Like it's sonically pleasing, catchy, the vocals are cool (tho Swinefest>> the double layered vocals with her real voice singing over the processed vocals and the louder heehees were so cool), it's different from her other singles, and the rest of the lyrics sound like some ambigious mysterious love song. And then she kinda ruins it with "artpop, artpop, artpohohohop, my artpop could mean anything"

I don't know about awards but she BETTER perform on Idol or The Voice again since both will be on the next few months.

She does it a lot this era. Like, there are many songs that could've easily been singles but then she does something to it (either offputting vocals and/or lyrics) that completely destroys its potential
