What's changed are ATRL rules, and people don't realize that those changes will not be reversed.
As moderators it is our job to take the rules we have and enforce them or add to them to keep the site as a whole running smoothly; we do that effectively. It is our job to respect the members of the site; we do that effectively but have the right to the same respect in return.
There are small things we could work on; responding more often to declines Help Requests as a group, more activity in HQ, increased casual activity around the forum in general, etc. but the problem is that there are legitimately no moderators who - as far as I have seen over 5 months, noting that I have a lot more insight to this situation than any of you do - abuse their power or are biased in such a way that their moderating is negatively affected. Lee!! is not the devil he is made out to be. Supa is not pretentious at all and has been a standout moderator from the day he and I joined the team with ANO and Razzle. Katie actually knows what she's doing and has not made a single decision I would not have supported despite protests to her judgment. Lipton is one of the most levelheaded and fair mods there is, despite people constantly complaining that his Bey dragging in SYG must necessarily mean he acts upon bias in warning people (he does not).
And I could go on and on. The problem here is a lack of communication on our parts and we're working on that, but such a problem leads people to mistake their underlying discomfort with the changing rules and policies as a problem with the mods that they visibly see enforcing those policies. Why the rules are what they are is a different issue entirely, but I wanted to just say all this.
Mods are indeed supposed to set an example; if one truly does break a rule, refer us to an admin. I wouldn't want personally to get away with something I know is wrong because it's my job to lead by example and act as respectfully and reserved as we would expect of all of you.
