A "big gap" is not a fixed difference in sales. To be able to judge if a gap is big or not, you have to look at all the factors affecting the sales. Born To Die is a newer album by a relatively new artist, not a 4th album by an artist who's been in the business for 6 years (at the time of Red's release) and thus has higher chances of underperforming/flopping, and an album that had a re-release. Despite all of that, it's still couldn't outsell Red by 1.4 (soon to be 1.5) million copies. Now that's a big gap.
