Not really negative, but I don't think she'll ever make albums like those again either. Doesn't mean it's a bad though though, I actually prefer her newer material. But a lot of pop artists have the same issue. Their earlier material >>>> their later material.

Yeah I really think it's just a matter of situations - she wasn't trying to live up to her own standards back then because they didn't exist yet. She raised the bar for herself, and she'll always have that to live up to whenever she creates a new album.

Not saying there's anything wrong with ARTPOP because it's a great album (probably her best), but there is clearly a different feel to ARTPOP than there is TF.

I kinda just wish she would go in the studio and just make music, rather than making music with the constant reminder that she needs to top herself and create her "best album yet."

It's kind of ironic because I feel like Artpop was pretty much her asking for acceptance from a critical and commercial market that has always known and respected for having artistic visions in pop culture (critics lauded the throwbacks in the Fame Monster for example). If she gave the album a different title, I feel things would be very different critically and maybe commercially.

Critically, definitely (that's THE thing all the negative reviews have in common), but commercially I'm not so sure, I mean if the GP didn't care about BTW's cover, I don't see why they would be bothered at ARTPOP's name...

Most people I know think that the Born This Way cover is iconic.

I do too. I guess I meant that typically the critical acclaim and commercial value line up in Gaga's case - this was the one time it didn't and it backfired. What is even more ironic to me is that Artpop is not even experimental compared to Born This Way.
