Whoa. So apparently only the police and military own weapons (guns) in Venezuela. How would a civil war even emerge if the people can't fight back? This is really upsetting.
Five students wounded during demonstrations in west Venezuela
Students were targeted by groups of bikers riding across Mérida, the capital city of Andean Mérida state, since the morning
Wednesday February 12, 2014 12:01 PM
Student demonstrations on Tuesday on Avenues Cardenal Quintero and Las Américas in Mérida, the capital city of Andean Mérida state, were assailed by groups of bikers presumably armed and clearly identified with banners of ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) and red and black scarfs covering their faces.
The unfortunate balance of demonstrations, of a peaceful nature at the outset, was five people shot. According to students, they were the target of the groups of bikers who would travel across the city of Mérida since the morning.
The five people wounded include a lady who received a shot in the lumbar region.
The remaining four were shot at their legs, the left intercostal region and the chest.
All of them were taken to the Andes University Hospital (HULA) and private hospitals.
Student leaders have reported on more than 150 wounded from the beginning of protests
"The more repression, the more streets students will have," student leader Tamy Suárez said. For her part, Gaby Arellano added: "All such government pressure, rather than cornering us will give us more strength to go out and speak up."
The activists made such warning during a rally slated for Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Plaza Venezuela, eastern Caracas. Later, at 11:00 a.m., they would head for the Attorney General Office, downtown Caracas. There, they would read over a paper to Attorney General Luisa Ortega Díaz to ask for the release of 11 students detained over the past few days.
On the Youth Day, students would also request cessation of impunity and violence "caused by true criminals." Student leaders Juan Requesens, Gaby Arellano and Tamy Suárez agreed on refusing the action of armed collectives on Tuesday in the Andean state of Mérida and Caracas, the capital city.
"We ask for reinforced security in universities and the country. Rather than chasing scoundrels, they go after students. Stop repression. As many as 150 youngsters have been wounded since student protests began," claimed Requesens, also the president of the University Student Federation, Central University of Venezuela.
Can we somehow bring this to any major WW news? we seriously need help at this point. I live near the protest in Merida and I've seen cops (and civils with cops by their side) shooting students for 3 days now
He was a student at La Universidad Alejandro de Humboldt. They're getting ready to go out today again, the Government hasn't released any statement about the deaths and the media hasn't reported anything. The only major channel that reported everything was CNN and it's not even Venezuelan. This is really sad.
I am getting home for the first time since yesterday to get a shower, etc, they will not stop us! The plan is to stay out in the streets until Maduro resigns..

The people of Venezuela needs to stop Maduro and his communist dictatorship before he turns into Stalin 2.0, it'll be too late then.
Some pics from yesterday in case they haven't been posted already:
Caracas:
San Cristóbal:
Valencia:
Mérida:
Puerto Ordaz (I took the first picture myself):
Today most major highways remained closed, many people aren't going to their jobs to avoid the huge traffic jams. We can do it!
Freedom of press nearly non-existant atm too! All these were organized only through social media which is the most amazing thing about it, without Twitter and Facebook nothing would have happened.
TV channels are censored, NTN24 the only channel that was reporting the rallies off the air, here's the link to watch it live: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCYcA1AlWZ0 in about 15 minutes a complete report of what's happening in Venezuela right now.
If they send Leopoldo Lopez to prison, shitstorm could begin..
I think they will try to get rid of Leopoldo, a part of me wishes they do so people get even more mad.
A couple short videos other people recorded in the protest we had yesterday in my town (which is a smallish town btw and there were still so many people).
No! In the protests I've seen mostly young people but there are still plenty of older people there (30 to 55 years old). The protests are being led by students but in reality is by society in general..

I don't know about armed but there are different visions about what the protests should be like. I for example support peaceful protests but many of my friends wanted to break havoc, so it depends on who you ask..
Gracias.
