I think it's the width of the reply box because 100 will always fill the entire width of the text box. I usually resize bigass pics/gifs to [imgzoom=30]

Yeah, it's the percentage of how much space it filled. When using the division code 7000 is the # that'll fill the entire post, which is why I suggested it. I believe the division code makes your text act as if it was in a table cell, which results in the "post width" becoming much, much smaller. It's almost as if you're trying to make the image 40% of a non-existent number. Therefor, you have to amp-up the imgzoom to really fill the area.
