I'm so sick of yall saying this tired ass ****, WHEN black actresses do worthy roles they don't get nominated for the WHITE AWARDS because they are chosen by WHITE MEN who have lived a WHITE EXPERIENCE and couldn't care less about anything outside of what they know. Not so surprising when you consider that 94% Oscar-voting members are white, and 77% of them male.
The first and most obvious example being Angela Bassetts iconic portrayal of Tina Turner in Whats Love Got To Do With It?
Waiting To Exhale

Set It Off ($9 million budget)

Akeelah & The Bee ($8 million budget)

And let's not pretend that academy award winning films are box office smashes in the first place because THEY ARE NOT, in fact, most of them are flops and are awarded on "talent".
Let us not.
More recently, Bey deserved some recognition for Cadillac Records too.
Ugh @ Justin releasing Not a Bad Thing & not Cabaret. I could see a radio edit of Not a Bad Thing catching on, but it's 11 & a half minute running time is gonna deter potential buyers away
The Academy has actually been good at rewarding black actors with nominations and wins during the last 10 years.
If anyone should be blamed it's Hollywood, INCLUDING black filmmakers who make tacky, generic & stereotypical movies with only the box office in mind. And it's not just Tyler Perry...
