i dont get how what he said is so bad?
hes saying they are nowhere near being compared to them musically but that they are more "famous" so to speak which is true
things are a lot different nowadays than in the 60s & famous people are way more famous now than they used to be for the most part
so basically hes saying "yea we are hugely famous but not as musically talented as them"

i really dont see how thats an arrogant thing to say at all

It's just an unnecessary comment, but it's apparently from a magazine interview so we will never know how they set him up.

It's not really a big deal though. We're pretty itchy since they're on break.

I disagree with Harry, I have heard tales from old people and I am convinced The Beatles were many times bigger than 1D, and I think Harry shouldn't have said anything. But like I said in that thread I don't think he made a huge sin or anything, it's just his opinion and he was only being honest.. Either way the GP doesn't seem to care since he said it last year and nothing happened..

All Penny is saying that in this instance, Harry said something taken out of context.

So many people forget that fame isn't black and white. It's rarely that you're known for something meaningful these days (MJ/Whitney/Aretha/Beatles/Valens/SelenaQuintanilla) are examples of this. Particularly this kind of fame is derived from reputation and historical significance. People KNOW who the important figures are (based on what is discussed; historical, musically, etc).

The kind of fame I'm assuming Harry is talking about is born from media frenzy and social media being more dominant in this technological age. Which is true in that 1D has became more famous faster than the Beatles did (in the same number of years). Overall, Beatles are more well known and appreciated for their cultural contributions (the 60s political message is one of these). Which is what Harry said really. 1D may never truly have that sort of impact but they carved themselves a spot in modern pop music however brief a paragraph.
