No offense, but i think you are overreacting a bit. WANEGBT isn't a good song lyrically, i agree and it's written by MM, that's OK. However, MM has really some good songs in his discography, i don't know if you ever interested in it, but, even IKYWT is a really good pop song, at least for someone like Taylor who tries to crossover the pop.
And songs like Royals and Gotye's song don't always become hits, all the factors should come together perfectly for those kind of songs. However, MM songs are produced for becoming hit singles, so Taylor takes no commercial risks with working MM again . If we only talk about commercial side, i bet LP5 singles will be very successful.
