But I have a question for her fans - do you think DWUW and by extension Artpop's success were significantly hampered by that Village Voice article on R. Kelly that came out a month after the album release? Since I didn't really follow Lady Gaga closely I can't be sure but I honestly think it did. But if I'm wrong in my impressions please let me know.
To me it just seems like coming out with a sexy video featuring R. Kelly might have been too much and that could play into why it was shelved. If that's the case I respect her even more actually. The re-release with Christina Aguilera might have been too late and made everything messier. Anyway I love that song, as well as Gypsy and Sexxx Dreams and I wish her success.

I think it's more than likely that the article (and bubbling hatred towards R. Kelly for being included on the track in general) ended up stopping the video, which in turn damaged charting in the US and overall promo. As a result of trying to sort it, we wind up with no MV and a rushed duet version with Christina after a lauded The Voice performance seemed like the best option to salvage the single.
Either way, Gaga seemed to hit rock bottom around the time all this was happening and she just stopped promoting.
