I have a question that I was curious about reading other people's opinions on and SYG seems to be the only place to have the discussion. Why is it that Beyoncè is often accused of bleaching or airbrushing her pics to be more of the "fair-skinned", but Rihanna whose tone varies from pics and appearances never receive such criticism? I love them both, but it seems odd that only Beyoncè is singled out when this case could apply to several people.

People care about Beyonce and they know that her influence is almost unbeatable on young girls, especially black ones. She already has blonde hair, which she has had since her DC days, but now that she is the biggest star in the world and appeals to women of every color things are different. Women that are not black IDENTIFY with Beyonce and that is scary to black media, they dont want Beyonce to fit in easily with an all white audience, they want her to be there as a black woman. So every little detail that may even begin to look suspicious is called out to remind the world and those women who identify with Beyonce that she is black and "we" are not letting her go, her success is that of a black woman.
Rihanna has never been... the focus of black media or black influence. You dont open Ebony or Essence and see anything about Rihanna but her hair, her beginnings in music have been pop, she is compared to Katy, Gaga, and Britney more than Beyonce, she is JUST now making music that majority black audiences enjoy, her music was always aimed at European crowds and therefore you almost expect her to be a "sell out".
Whitney had a phase in her career in the late 80s or early 90s I believe where she was being called a sell out and accused to trying to use her music and image to appeal solely to white audiences, Beyonce has been accused of the same thus brining the 4 era upon us. I really do think she would have made another pop album had the backlash about her selling her soul to pop and euro buyers not been so rampant. The BEYONCE album and sound is the medium, and an amazing one.
