Before you go uninstalling stuff, You gotta make sure its unfixable because Linux could be kinda tricky for first time users.
1. Whats the make and model of your laptop? If you go the vendor's website, you would see the be able to find device drivers to install for your device which should make it work. I suggest you try that route then get back to me.
