It's like, since 2004, her whole legacy is just swept away.

Let me begin with this:

I love Janet Jackson. I think she was an innovative, risk taking and TALENTED artist, dancer and musician.

It is a tragedy that the GP cast her out after the Superbowl. The Nipplegate performance nearly eradicated the incredible career she had till that point. SO much so that the new generation barely knows her music, her legacy.

Beyonce's career is still young. She has been around for a while and started to decline (in terms of popularity) during 4, but I feel that her new album is the start of a new Golden period for Beyonce. It's too early to tell whether her legacy will be bigger or not. But if she continues producing interesting and risky music, she will make a larger impact than Janet (as unfair as it may be). She has already inspired a generation of artists during the 2000s, like Rihanna. Her legacy will be much more apparent once her career winds down in 10-15 more years.

This image is horrendous. Those dance moves are just basic ranges of human motion and had been done well before Janet was born and would've been done if Janet had never been famous.

Instead, you should've pointed out that Janet helped create the dancing-focused pop star and was a major influence (and still is) on most of those artists.

My vote still goes to Beyoncé, though, only because Janet gets so slept on (though I think it's about time she starts a feminist revolution and launches a revolt against her treatment after the Superbowl). She's still one of the most influential artists ever, but her career was unfairly swept under the rug because she was so risky with her art and a victim of the FCC.

Janet. Only old bitter housewives care about the nipple incident, so future generations won't even blink an eye about it. Beyonce's legacy though will be more affected by her scandals with DC, writing credits, behind the scenes politics and lip-syncing at big events. Those don't matter now, but once an artist is past their prime all their skeletons begin to come out that may tarnish their legacy.

Once again, the girls here are judging legacy by crossover success and current relevancy. Beyonce is more relevant than Aretha and Tina currently, does that diminish their output?

Janet has the bigger legacy than Beyonce. Similar to how Aretha is the blueprint for soul singers after her, Janet is the blueprint for dancers. Her contributions to the music industry are tremendous. It doesn't matter whether YOU or your country know about it. That's your problem.

But only haters care about that stuff ( seeing that it isn't true and they cling to any bad media associated with B hoping that others that are not familiar with pop culture will believe the lies when they repeat them)

Janet's career is over....her last album was released in 2008 so that's a good 26 year run.....however she was not relevant, popular or had constant impact during those 26 years

Beyonce has been relevant, popular and has made significant impact to music in all her 16 years ( you can debate this fact all you want but no amount of your anger will change it ) and she is showing no signs of ever slowing down and by the way BEYONCE caused such a ruckus, the world is showing no signs of slowing down on their love for her....people want Beyonce to be around forever, with her scandals and all.....
