Because making hits back then was easy. There was no illegal downloading and stuff like that. ALSO, Mariah probably had a good promo team and shoved all her singles + albums down everyone throats.

Gaga is in year 5 of her stable career. Everything would have gone perfectly if she didn't fire her friends

I don't think Gaga is a fad (look @ her tour stats) and she still has time to make a comeback properly
