What's this about Rihanna not working off the backs of others but building a name for herself as if she is an independent artist who never has relied on collaborations or big name managers or producers or songwriters or stylists or anything like that.

If we're talking rivals in regards to career/chart wise, I think it's Katy Perry. Being already on her third album she's quickly catching up to Rihanna's #1s lead and is proving that she is still able to move albums at the same time.
