I think it has something to do with Eminem receiving strong backing of Dre and therefore the urban community. Plus Eminem actually connects to a big part of the urban audience because he struggled and has actual street cred... Plus Eminem is more talented. Macklemore is talented too, but c'mon we're talking about Eminem here. It's ok to have strong hooks song by other artists (ie, Dido on Stan, Lauryn Hill on IIRTW), but when the hooks outshine your actual verses that's a problem.
