Death @ some of U not understanding that homophobia can be in very subtle things or attitudes that you even think are positive
Like:
- Saying 'rap hates gays' which erases the existence of LGBT rappers and their contributions
- Acting like you're the saviour of the gays by telling us what's best for ourselves ("marriage is a good place to start") while being totally ignorant of other FAR more pressing issues the LGBT population faces, also erasing trans people
- Failing to acknowledge and do anything about the fact that yet another STRAIGHT person becomes the face of an LGBT music genre (LGBT hip hop) and pushes out actual gay, lesbian and trans hip hop artists, it's like the mainstream can only accept a pro-gay message from a straight person and Macklemore perpetuates that and profits from it at a faaar greater level than any LGBT artist
And the saddest part of it all is his supporters on here are gay themselves! Do not fool yourself, Macklemore is simply part of the way things have always been: marginalized people, like us poor gays, can only be accepted as long as it's through the lens of the majority. The same world that supports Macklemore's "Same Love" will also only support gay rights that benefit middle class & above white gay males, and it's the same world that will politely ask you to tone down your gayness in front of children or to 'act presentable' at a business meeting (aka no flamboyance, 'straight acting') and expect you to be OK with their thinly-veiled homophobia. Don't be a cog in the system. #****Macklemore
