Fassbender's character left his slaves with another owner for "two seasons," if I recall, which I'm assuming means "two years." That child is more than two years old. I think the child in that scene is meant to symbolize the new found "innocence" of Fassbender's character after he spent those years "cleansing his spirit" of negativity to wash away "the plague" on his crops, hence him being all in white.
