Thrift Shop & Can't Hold Us were the 2 and 4th songs released from their album. Same Love was the third.
Thrift Shop smashed about 7 months after it was released. The new attention then led to Can't Hold Us getting radio adds (They're an independent duo hence wouldn't have the funds for payola). Same Love then followed suit.

What is opportunistic about releasing a song about Marriage Equality in a country debating the the eradication of the rights of a whole minority?
