Does anybody care about Garth Brooks? No. Still he has sold over 200 million records but is rarely mentioned next to male popstars like MJ or Prince.
That's how I see P!nk. Her legacy will live on, but Britney and Beyoncé will always be front-row. At least her name as an artist is bound to be a household name so I could be wrong with the Garth Brooks comparison.
Speaking about her legacy she seems like the pioneer for Katy, Gaga & Co. Here a few quotes:
Quote:
Entertainment Weekly said: "She essentially invented the whole modern wave of Pop Diva Domination: You can draw a straight line from “Get This Party Started” to Katy Perry, Kesha, pre-messianic Lady Gaga, and post-weird Rihanna."
|
Quote:
Glamour Magazine wrote: "When Pennsylvania-born Alecia Moore debuted in 2000, pop was dominated by long-locked blonds like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Jessica Simpson. Pink changed the game. Without her, the last 13-years of big-voiced, tough chick music is hard to imagine."[
|
Quote:
Jon O'Brien of AllMusic stated that Pink's music provided "the benchmark for the careers of Kelly Clarkson and Katy Perry, to name just two."
|
Quote:
"Although never quite achieving the cultural impact (and infamy) of contemporaries such as Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, she’s proved surprisingly durable and influential (would there be any Katy Perry or Ke$ha without Pink?)", wrote John Murphy of musicOMH in his review of The Truth About Love.
|
Quote:
In a 2012 cover story on Pink, The Advocate wrote: "The singer has changed the sound of modern pop music irrevocably [...] paving the path for many of today’s most popular modern female artists, including Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and Rihanna."[
|
Quote:
Bill Brotherton of the Boston Herald seconded this notion while reviewing The Truth About Love Tour, saying: "It’s hard to imagine that Katy Perry, Rihanna and even Gaga would have achieved superstar status without 33-year-old Alecia Moore leading the way."

There's dozen more of these statements and they lead to her being an artist on her own. So yes, she's on the way to be a legend in more or less ways.

Critics are always saying things that don't make sense or that are more opinion based (not just for P!nk but for a lot of other artists). Like that first quote from EW? There is no straight line

Garth Brooks was a HUGE star. Yes, tons of people still care about him. Just look at the way they grasp any time his music is available to be purchased (his albums aren't on iTunes, but when they get re-printed they sell out instantly).

|
M!ssundaztood doesn't have the same sound as "Breakaway." However, after "Breakaway" P!nk did songs like "Who Knew" (which has Dr. Luke's iconic guitar riff in it), "Blow Me One Last Kiss," etc. There just isn't room for them to both be using Kelly's early 2000s sound.

Not you saying P!nk copied Kelly's Breakaway while all she would have needed to do is copying her OWN sound a'la M!ssundaztood? Stop this nonsense.

Breakaway definitely borrows a lot from M!ssundaztood, critics agree. Funny you should mention Blow Me (One Last Kiss). It was produced by Greg Kurstin whom P!nk worked with in 2005 putting him on the map. He went on to work with Lily Allen, Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson etc I mean, as long as we're nitpicking over producers.
And you're right, there isn't room for them both to use P!nk's sound. So the world got rid of the other one.

Amongst critics & industry insiders, sure. With the GP idk.
She's rarely talked about compared to her more traditional pop star peers. Her talent, success & longevity certainly qualifies her.

And you need to come up with facts instead of opinions if you're trying to discredit Pink's influence on Kelly's music.
