Heartbeats - October. 2014
After a successful stint in rehab at the beginning of the year, Dr. Luke and Ke$ha reach an agreement and Ke$ha is freed from her contract under Kemosabe Records. In April that year she is picked up by Capitol Records and begins recording tracks for her next album. Many of the tracks that were recorded with Luke before her stint in rehab make the album tracklisting including the lead single
Love Bites, an empowering folk driven dance track featuring the lyrics 'Oh boy you've stepped on a landmine' and 'You messed with the wrong Bitch'. Heartbeats showcases Ke$ha growth as an artist as well as continuing to deliver fresh sing-a-long smashes, with each song having its on unique element which makes it stand out. Ke$ha's more vulnerable side is showcased in tracks such as
Skeleton; a heart driven dance ballad about the death of romance, as well as
You Control My Heart, an ambient old school belter about the power of love.
The title track
'Heartbeats' , is a celebration anthem about life and beauty each of us have, in our own unique way, and whilst this theme occurrs throughout the album, like in the dirty guitar driven track
Renegade and an old school, Bob Dylan inspired ballad
Kids, the Die Young songstress isnt afraid the explore the darker side of life. Tracks such as
Cold Blooded Killer; a dark, folk driven dance track and the ever so dirty ****-Pop inspired track
K!ss Th!s, each uniquely explore the dangers of love and society. At the end of the day however, 'Pops dirty little sister' doesn't stray too far away from her well known, irresistibly catchy party tracks, each with their own unique sound. Including the Pharrel produced Funk infused track
Sexy as Funk and the guitar driven dance track
Wildflower, full with stomps and clamps and a huge singalong chorus. Ke$ha offers an escape from the real world and welcomes listeners into a journey into her view on the world, with all its highs and lows. Whether a Ke$ha fan or not, Heartbeats is guaranteed to take you on emotional roller coaster, making you want to laugh, dance and cry all in the space of an hour.
