Basically. But at the same time, why is that a bad thing? I don't want the new generation of idols to repeat the past; they should make names for themselves in their own, unique ways. No one needs a second Big Bang or TVXQ or SNSD - that would be incredibly boring.

Agreed. Plus, we don't need people endless amounts of complaints saying that this group's music/style/choreography/etc. is just like (insert past group here)!

I totally agree, but someone should probably be telling that to the company CEOs who are afraid to actually take risks by trying to produce new artists with new concepts and would rather stick to what they know by replicating their past successes.

In the '90s, we never thought we'd get another idol group as great as HOT but look what happened. Idols will continue to come out well into the future so quit your crazy talk.

I wouldn't be shocked if those top votes/comments were from Soshi or VIP's, who would obviously want to bash any threat to their oppa's and unni's

I think it has more to do with them sleeping on, Korea. They only release once a year there (which I guess SM thinks is acceptable, since their already beloved), while they're basically slaving away in Japan (like they used to do in Korea) and releasing their best material in their secondary market - which they've been banned from live promotions. It makes no sense to me.

I don't need GG to have a "sexy" concept to mature in Korea. I want the Japanese SNSD to make their debut in Korea already, basically.

It is different for SNSD though. They have made millions each, have become one of the biggest acts in Korea, ever (there is enough grounds to suggest the biggest), they have conquered Japan without knowing a word of the language (although it didn't last long thanks to the cockblocking by the Japanese media), they have been at the forefront of the Hallyu wave for 6 years and are still pumping out hit after hit despite 7 years in the business. Why would you even bother now? There is nothing to motivate them anymore, nor will there be with SM's management.

Prepare a Chinese debut, Asian expansion (with an English album) as well as a European/South American debut and send a few songs to US radio just to see if they pick up and if they do, fly them over and watch them roll in the $$$$.

And within the next fortnight I presume.

I mean I agree 2NE1/f(x)/SISTAR will never reach Soshi status but that doesn't mean A Pink or some other upcoming girl group won't. The only groups have come close are Kara/T-ara.

I may sound crazy but I think After School may become the next nation girl group. The graduation system makes for endless possibilities.

Lets not play SNSD's early successes down. They were popular with a big fan base (far bigger than Wonder Girls) and had four relatively big hits prior to Gee. However, Wonder Girls were churning out smashes left right and centre. They would best be compared to f(x) but with a bigger fan base between 07/08.

KARA have never came close to SNSD though. 2NE1 have came closest though, although, they would never have had a bigger peak than SNSD because YG promoted them poorly and they are somewhat of a niche act, albeit a pretty big niche. And T-ara had too many controversies to their name, even in 2011. CCM just released certified bops, hence why their popularity was so easily destroyed.

That whole post is pop anatomy in general. I mean, we're sitting on ATRL, with daily discussions about the fact we live in a generation where today's pop stars are always being compared to the past pop generations pop stars and their success. And the reception of the new pop stars will never be seen as up to par to the old ones. So, no matter how good or bad, the new generation of pop stars, or idols in this case, will compare to the idols that have made their mark and are so adored.

I don't think it's fair to make the comparison, anyway.

I don't see how people still claim Exo isn't as good as TVXQ, Shinee and Super Junior. If you want to talk about 'talent', go ahead, because that is subjective and there will never a right or wrong answer. It's completely debatable. The only things that can't be debated and are in fact definite are numbers, and the numbers show that more people are buying Exo's albums than TVXQ's, Shinee's and Super Junior's.

And why are K-netz still on this "the public doesn't know who Exo are, only their fangirls" bull? For one, fangirls are part of the Korean public. They're not a separate entity. They represent what Koreans are listening to and what's popular there just as much as everyone else. But realistically speaking, the 'general Korean public' doesn't give two shits about K-pop. K-netz act as if everyone 30+ adores Shinee and SNSD and Big Bang and they can name every member and couldn't care less about Exo. False. The working population and common folk of Korea do not care about any of these groups, and only know of the bigger ones, not because they like them, but because they've been around for years.

Oh, and I guess that fag who said no one will ever surpass TVXQ and Big Bang doesn't realize that people said the same thing about them when they were new in reference to H.O.T and Shinhwa.
