Props to her for sticking to her guns, I love her for that. But now she obviously needs to decide if she WANTS to continue doing that and fade into irrelevance, or adapt. And I don't care what she says, I know she still wants to be on top. The Joanne I fell in love with would never accept anything less.

Everyone knows this and I'm kinda rooting for her but I have my doubts that she could change her situation when she says stuff like "if you aren't a pop artist then you can't criticize me". If she can't be humble then she's doomed.
Gaga doesn't have the drive to have a Madonna-like career, and I really don't get why she was ever compared to Madonna, seeing as that Gaga is a lot safer in terms of her art and her rise to the top was much faster than Madonna's. Plus, Gaga is far more flamboyant than Madonna ever was. Cher would probably be a closer bet for her. Cher has had a long career, but she is really nothing more than a gay icon and has never been as universal as a Janet or Madonna.

Did you even pay attention during TF? She pushed her piano/acoustic versions everywhere, and I think that played a big part in convincing people Gaga was worth a listen.

I don't think its drive, I think its hype. Gags fell for her own hype way too fast. Madonna had no hype to believe or reason to be comfortable for the first two decades of her career. It's only in the 00s that she's chilled out a bit and fell for her own hype.
The main diff. btwn. the two is Madonna constantly listens to her critics and gets off on proving them wrong (even when she says she doesnt care she does). Gags tries to block off the critics and pretend they don't exist.
