It makes sense for general field nominees to be asked to perform, but they are not guaranteed wins, and a performance slot doesn't indicate you have a strong chances at winning.
The general field, one or two pop categories, a rap category, one or two country categories, a rock category.
It's usually like 10 to 11 awards presented on the telecast.
