And who says voices of our generation have to be Mariah's or Whitney's. A voice is not about doing a stacatto, or havin a 5 octave range or **** like that. It's about being recognised by people of your time and being relatable to it.

7) JT can play guitar and drums. Beyonce can't play instruments but her star power makes her so iconic there doesn't have to be a thread about it. 8) Her cowriting skills must be horrid, because she is a singles artist, and her singles are the best material on her albums, and she has only written one single. The lyrics being fairly shallow and not even having rhythmic structure.

This is what I'm talking about. Something does not have to be praised to be iconic. No one said her performance was good by any means.
People are going to forever associate foam fingers with Miley Cyrus because of that performance. People in America associate twerking primarily with Miley Cyrus because of that performance. The look was instantly memorable and the image has already been repeated, parodied, and imitated throughout pop culture.

Singles aren't all that she's iconic for, her looks & hell the entire LOUD era.
Okay so she's only a singles artist... but has sold over 30M albums & has a tour that grossed 140M? Ok.
How is she every other pop star? Rihanna's voice is instantly recognizable & she always comes with a different sound.
If you honestly think her singles are the best on the album, I'm going to guess you haven't purchased albums such as Rated R, GGGB, Talk That Talk & Unapologetic.
But again, you tried really hard this time, I guess.
Lots of artists have had commercially successful periods of time, but that didn't stop them from fading away because even after all of their hit records they did nothing that left a lasting impression on the mind of the general public. The general public doesn't know (or care) how many weeks which girl went #1 in Sweden or Kazakhstan. They respond to more tangible moments of "iconicness" (performances, videos, catch phrases, memorable outfits, etc). In that regard, I would argue that Beyonce is the most iconic artist of her generation, and she managed to do it without hair dye or a police report.

The only thing I'd say is iconic about Rihanna is the Chris Brown situation and her red hair. The Navy seems to think going #1 in Russia automatically makes you iconic. I guess Flo Rida is iconic too because his songs smash.

Ooh, yes. Thank you for mentioning Mariah. She would be another example of an artist who was immensely successful and had a lot of hits and was very influential while providing very, very few iconic moments. Much like Rih.
But certainly if you're the most iconic artist since Diamond-selling Britney you should have some of that star power translating into more than single sales? That's my case.

Rihanna is definitely gonna be remembered in the sense that she has a lot of songs. But iconic unfortunately will only be because of her relationship with Chris Brown...much like Ike and Tina and Bobby and Whitney
Other than Rih's 13 #1, fashion, taking back an abuser and naked instagram pics, I'm not sure what she's iconic for. Gaga, surpassed Rih a long time ago, in album sells, net worth, tour grossing, she's just more Global. And Beyoncé is just on another level from the rest period, sold more albums, higher tour gross, critical acclaim, net worth, 17 Grammy's, more talented, its not even fair comparison for Rih to Bey. With the release of Beyoncé, that just put Bey in a different stratosphere.
