This is not true at all. The whole world has always been here for R&B. Whitney, Alicia, Mary, Toni, Mariah, etc. all have had massive global success with R&B. The genre is not an excuse. Pepcé is a pop star.

Beyonce's more R&B albums always fare better in the US. It's no coincidence that her only album to sell more outside of the US was her only album that wasn't primarily R&B/urban music. It's still hilarious how she still manages to sell more albums outside of the US on average than your favorite "global" girls on top of that tho.
