Whitney sang mostly adult contemporary, her music had urban influences but that was much later in her career and when she did her career globally stalled.
Toni was also more Adult Contemporary and the more urban her music became the more her album sales decreased.
I didn't know Mary had a huge WW following tbh.
I'll give you Alicia, for the most part R&B artists have not had the same accessibility as Poo stars on a WW scale because it's not as appreciated.
Beyoncé sells like a popstar but her music as a WHOLE has been decidedly more urban leaning than straight up pop.
