I think if Glitter was based on her actual life in the 90's: her discovery, success and controlling marriage it would have done better at the box office and with critics. It would have been a great way to promote her whole 90's catalogue as well if the accompanying album was a greatest hits with a few new tracks.

Would have been better than the uninspired 80's throwback that we actually got. It's a good cheesy film and the album had it's moments but overall, a damn mess.

She'd had a whole decade of success, so the over exposure + Glitter's sub standard quality (after her $100m record deal) in comparison to her previous work made her an easy target.

The media love to put people on a pedestal and then bring them down. I've seen people mention the 9/11 release date also, I'm not really sure if that does tie in, but I imagine the downfall of one of the biggest superstars would provide somewhat of a welcome distraction at the time.

I wish she'd work with the producers that did Lana's Born To Die album as well. The production is amazing.
