The problem I have with Katy is her basic material, I want her to be like a joni mitchell on her next record more singer songwriterish material because i feel like she would gain more acclaim meanwhile Gaga writes all of her own material, and with her piano skills she has shown that she can more than handle her status as one of the most talented pop stars of our generation.

I blame Dr. Luke honestly, I would love to see what work Katy could do working with unique producers.

Music is subjective, and there is no clear answer to this question, I think that in 30 years Katy and Gaga will still be releasing music.

Gaga is talented but her musical range is limited to EDM. That's what she's known for and sadly that's what she'll be expected to do. We are seeing the decline in her popularity partly because people have moved on from her music and because there have been better substitutes (Avicii, etc). Will talent be enough to carry her through a couple more albums? Obviously, it's not helping ARTPOP as she dons hilarious costumes and does absurd performances. She has also suddenly aborted her heterosexual fans from her fan base in favor of her gays. Not sure how she can reclaim them back.

Katy, on the other hand, is not as massively talented but has enough to cross over various genres with ease. The way she moves from pop/rock to urban is a feat seen only among major superstars. If she keeps on with this formula I see her outlasting many pop girls, including Gaga.

To predict longevity, you judge a career by the lows - not the highs.

It remains to be seen whether Katy could cope with a flop album with no hits. She doesn't have the fanbase Gaga has to weather those stormy waters, and if her stock plummets...will she get first pickings of the hits or the label budget to hire hitmakers?

Katy's lasted so long because her voice is versatile and she has a diverse bunch of singles. She easily has crossover smashes, which is something only her and Rihanna have been able to do as far as I know

Its a known fact that first week sales are mostly fans buying - so seems to me Katy is the one with a bigger fanbase - and she also has the GP on her side, hence her album already being plantium in the states

I think the Gaga = Cyndi comparison is fitting. Cyndi is known for a few huge singles from her first two eras, her last #1 was the first single of her third album, and she is big on costumes and LGBT rights. Sound familiar?
