Umm… which of them "prevailed"? Certainly you aren't saying Britney is the more talented of the two, or (worse), that Christina has been more successful.
As long as Katy continues to stay in step with trends as they come and go, and as long as Gaga continues to pigeonhole herself as an of-putting pop act that only her most dedicated fans will support, then maybe.

Yes, she will. It doesn't mean she is a more talented artist, she just plays "the game of long run success" much better than Gaga. Katy has set the foundations of her career the same way Madonna did. At first she plays it safe as a hit-maker with sex appeal, but keeps getting bigger and bigger per album release. Gaga is like the new Cyndi Lauper, starts off bigger by attracting everyone with their wacky persona and big personality. But they believe too much in their craft and get more alternative per album release, distancing themselves from the general public.
Cyndi was largely known for her big, fun personality but she went too far with that persona so early in her career that she couldn't develop or grow. Madonna became known for reinventing and changing her image, and pushing boundaries image and music-wise. In this generation, it's the other way round. We have Lady Gaga, the once predicted new Madonna, known for pushing the boundaries music and image wise. Like Cyndi, she went too far too early and can't develop. Katy is the new Madonna but with the same persona as Cyndi. She will maintain public interest with her fun and relatable personality
Comparing Katy to Madonna is the biggest joke I have ever seen.

Gaga is more way more talented than both Rih and Katy. You can keep hoping and wishing that she's Cyndi because of ONE underperforming album (that is still selling lolz).
