Probably in terms of chart success and probably album sales too, but does that always indicate quality? No. Flo Rida and Pitbull will probably also outlast GaGa, like the toxic musical cockroaches they are. At least GaGa did some risky stuff even if the outcome wasn't always solid. I applaud her for that.

Gaga is going through her Glitter/Charmbracelet era right now

Once she stops caring what people think about her and gets over herself she'll come back and slay again. Katy will eventually burn out... she really has nothing pulling people in to her as a person she doesn't do anything daring and she doesn't do anything exceptionally well but make cute pop hits tbh. I could be wrong though only time will tell

This is a perfect analogy for the situation. I think she'll have one more super successful album / era (The Emancipation of Mimi) and then just have a couple of hits here and there, but not a lot of album success anymore. And she'll still be remembered as being a great vocalist and songwriter just like Mariah is. But she's really gotta play her cards right.

Yes, she will. It doesn't mean she is a more talented artist, she just plays "the game of long run success" much better than Gaga. Katy has set the foundations of her career the same way Madonna did. At first she plays it safe as a hit-maker with sex appeal, but keeps getting bigger and bigger per album release. Gaga is like the new Cyndi Lauper, starts off bigger by attracting everyone with their wacky persona and big personality. But they believe too much in their craft and get more alternative per album release, distancing themselves from the general public.

Cyndi was largely known for her big, fun personality but she went too far with that persona so early in her career that she couldn't develop or grow. Madonna became known for reinventing and changing her image, and pushing boundaries image and music-wise. In this generation, it's the other way round. We have Lady Gaga, the once predicted new Madonna, known for pushing the boundaries music and image wise. Like Cyndi, she went too far too early and can't develop. Katy is the new Madonna but with the same persona as Cyndi. She will maintain public interest with her fun and relatable personality
