Ugh. Beyonce was right when she said:
All the **** I do is boring
All these record labels boring
It seems that the top of success in music has been reduced to "in the moment" single releases, iTunes & airplay. Ya'll want to live in a world where an artist releases a single 2 months ahead of the album, slaves away on every show imaginable, endorses every product thrown their way, visits every radio station, creates some faux controversy (have a breakdown, get your ass whooped, meditate naked in the forest...), comes outside in ridiculous outfits, has their label pay for a Clear Channel programming deal to ensure radio spins, and settles for a 150-280k opening week.
And if they're really crafty, they even discount their album for $0.99 to sell 1 million copies. But is it all worth it. Why? Because they have a #1 single that sells 3-4 million copies for $0.69 to $1.29?
They don't make any impact, they don't wow onstage, they don't shake things up...but they're famous and get invited to the VMAs! They do what gets them by, and then they run back in the studio to do it all over again 4th quarter next year. Our pop generation!
