It's better to accept the fact that something went south along the way than to try to prove to people that you are right. And to an extent, you are right. ARTPOP didn't "flop", it just really underperformed. She went from opening with 1 million first week (660k if you factor out Amazon) and selling singles like hot cakes to struggling to pass local country artists, Miley Cyrus, and Katy, whom most of you ruled out as little competition.

But you have to look at the ERA as a whole. Gaga herself, and her album, were not well received by critics. Her TV special performed terribly and theres simply a disconnect with her previous audience.

It's all relative. Born This Way had a massive promotional campaign, probably the biggest we have seen in this generation. BTW also had a huge #1 single leading into the album release and a pop star at the height of her fame. Gaga is in a valley right now, but she will peak again. I think 2014 will be a very productive and stabilizing year for Gaga.

Gaga will be fine, ARTPOP is a success, you'd think she would be doing so much worse because of the Born This Way backslash and honestly, you can't expect her to be as big as she once was. But don't count her out, once Gaga gets it together she's gonna be on top again and most of you are gonna feel pretty dumb for making assumptions based on an "underperformance" that really isn't there.

It's sales figures are artifically inflated though due to seasonal effects. It relied on Black Friday and then the Christmas boom period as well as massive discounts on Amazon AND iTunes to reach it's sales figures. So it looks like it sold a lot after 1 month, when in reality that was caused by it's timing of release and deep discounting.

Now that none of these things are boosting it's sales, it has to rely on it's actual music to sell the album. Let's see how it does from now on.

You should look at ARTPOP as an indicator of how Gaga fares without major hits, critical acclaim or GP support.

From that perspective, you actually see how successful she is. Compare it to how her peers would manage in a similar position and that much is clear.

ARTPOP is just surrounded in negative energy...from the start. It is as if the universe is trying to tell Gaga this album shouldn't have happened. I'm glad it did. Instead of Gaga acting as though she released the most artistic masterpiece in the world and we're just not seeing it, I hope she learns from this low point.

The album isn't really 'hot,' but it could be doing a lot worse too. I believe this album has no future. I hope the artRAVE redeems Gaga.

If anything it just shows how early she peaked into her career. In hindsight she's doing what normal pop-stars do, but GaGa wasn't always treated like a normal Pop-star. From fans, the GP, and critics she was always this avant-garde type of person. Its not good when her album sales dropped that much, her singles are failing to chart, and critics panned the album. Even her fans are turning against her. In the bigger picture, ARTPOP could be the start of her downfall.
