People usually get 5% for producing the basics of a track, as the singer of most of the song and writer she must get at least 20%.

What is your source for this number?

Also, considering the amount of people that contributed to this song, a low margin is not surprising. There are at least 4 different producers who no doubt also had a hand in writing. There are 11 officially credited songwriters, not to mention the producers themselves who often get writing credits as well. Not to mention anyone who may be uncredited but have asked for some kind of royalty or payment for their contribution.

Just because she sung the hook and contributed to the songwriting process doesn't automatically mean she is going to get the biggest cut.

If anyone gets a big cut it would be the producers. Then you have to factor in the label, publishing, management, distribution, etc.

But yeah. 5% seems pretty fair.

There's no proof of her profits that she gets from any song, information like that is usually kept between the artist and the label.

Unfortunate in this case because from what I've heard, Luke actually had very little to do with the production of this track firsthand. Most of it was done by his prodigies Cirkut and Sermstyle. He probably just oversaw the overall final product.

So basically 25% for Ke$ha, 25% for Pitbull and around 4% for the others? How's that fair?

There's probably 100+ people that are making money off Timber's royalties. 5% is actually a higher share than I would have expected for Ke$ha.

She was one of ELEVEN writers, plus she is just a featured artist (how much of the song she sings is irrelevant). I think that's about right. Pitbull probably doesn't even get 10.
