Civil? On ATRL? Child please!
It's truly a shame that a site with as much diversity as ATRL has, we can't all learn from one another in becoming more socially conscious of things such as race, socioeconomic status, and so on. I can accept people not knowing the history behind blackface and the racial implications behind it, but I can't accept the complete disregard to reason with some on why it's viewed so negatively.
For me, it's hard not to contribute and give my two cents because most times, these types of conversations never end well [as well all know and learned]. Also, it can be hurtful to discuss and convey my feelings when I feel so blatantly offended by the action. I mean, the primate jokes affiliated with a person of color is always another touchy topic with me as well. With that said, I also feel the need to contribute towards the education portion of it all as already mentioned; even if one person learns something from it all, it's a job well done all-around.
If you as an adult or as a decent human being can't maturely discuss the topic, perhaps it's best if you don't participate in such discussions in the near future.
