It's all about the hype. I guess it's just not true when the music is so good that it transcends all expectations, which is not very common. The hype can make or break good albums/eras.
It feels weird for Britney to be a flop, like the end of an era or like something is inherently wrong with the world. She's always been successful before now, even if she was floundering in one department she was strong in the other. But now everything is a flop: media coverage, singles, album sales, touring.

The History Tour was record breaking but it should not have been so long. He basically lipped the most of the show and was off key (dancing was still top notch). he should have canceled the tour after he passed out backstage.
