It's incredibly important in my life, especially the "because you're a superstar" speeches during the Monster Ball before the album came out as well as the actual song "Born This Way". It all came at a time in my life when I really needed it most, you know? I don't even care if "Highway Unicorn" is a complete embarrassment objectively, I'll belt along to it any time, and that goes for any song on the record. I like ARTPOP more, but Born This Way has a special place in my heart that nothing else will touch.

BTW is my favorite album of all time, so there's that.

Exactly! It's probably a problem that I'm saying this as a moderator, but I get really ****ing bothered when people come for Born This Way. I'm an impulsive and emotional type of stan anyway, but literally nobody has any need to come for that record. It helped probably millions of people worldwide who needed the help, and the support. When the whole album is about self-acceptance, self-exploration, positivity and unity as a whole, coming for it based on things like sales is just terrible. People should evaluate the piece of work based on its intent, and nobody does that with her last two records. What was the real intent of ARTPOP? To be a more fun, less "preachy" electronic record - it's the era that should be criticized for some of her attempts at art, not the album. By the very same token, what was Born This Way? It wasn't made to be the "album of the decade" and sell 30 million records and slay everyone or what-the-****-ever a hater says - it was made to be our album of the decade, a piece of work that her fans could use when they most needed it and keep close to their hearts because it shows them their own worth when they need it, you know? I needed someone to tell me everything she said, many of her other fans needed someone to say what she did. That's what it's about, and anyone who doesn't see that simply doesn't understand.

Born This Way didn't touch me like it did for some fans, but it's one of the best albums I've ever listened to. Even the so-called fillers are gems to me lol. I also think it's Gaga's favorite album so far.

Which is exactly why she does what she does. I wish other Monsters would realize this when complaining about such tiny things.

True. It's just when I listen to it, I hear something like "Bad Kids," "Highway Unicorn," "Government Hooker," or "Electric Chapel" and it just seems so daring and against the grain of what pop music is seen as. It was dark and gritty but uplifting in a sense. The fact that it starts with "Marry The Night" and ends with "The Edge of Glory" and that flawless saxophone solo at the very end that leads you off into the distance.. its very emotional. And the critical acclaim when it came out shows that.
What I think did hurt the era was frequent uses of abhorrent outfits and stylings. As well as some of her arrogant behavior.
Now. Back to the iHeartRadio festival from 2011. What's next? The artRave or the 2013 festival? You decide.

I absolutely agree with Retro.
Btw the song was/is still my confidence booster.
I don't get the hate for it or the album itself

It helped so many people out. I remember reading a story about a military man who was on the verge of suicide, but I think it was the edge of glory that prevented him from doing so

I agree with you in every way but especially on this! And what's hurting her this era too? The same things!
She'll come around though, if she wants to. And if not, oh well, she's still damn awesome no matter what she sells.

That was so perfectly said Retro
I can definitely relate, like all of my friends come for Born This Way and call it "silly" or "trash." And I just want to go OFF on them because of how much the record means to me. Songs like "Born This Way," "Hair,"(even though I come for it sometimes) "Bad Kids," "Marry The Night," and "Americano." Are honestly some of the most important songs in her discography, for me at least. And for anyone to call the album trash when the songs are more meaningful than anything their faves could come up with, infuriates me. I mean, I know that all of the tracks are all about loving and accepting yourself, the entire album is about that, but those songs that I listed earlier, especially so. I was a low point in my life during The Fame Monster and Gaga brought me out of it, and about a month after the release of Born This Way, I hit another low in my life and I just had this album on repeat for the rest of the year. I got upset at a lot of the things she did with the era but the music is what mattered most to me and I will always love that album for accomplishing its intended purpose of self acceptance.

Born This Way is her best album. The record is very cohesive, not here for people calling it too noisy and overproduced. I hope she works with Fernando again.

Although I love it, I must disagree with it not being overproduced. It's incredibly overproduced 'cause that's sort of Fernando's sound, but I think it works. BTW was supposed to loud, harsh, noisy, and in your face. It's what make it so great.

I understand. The speeches about us being "god damn superstars" came right around when I was accepting myself and my sexuality; the song came on my fifteenth birthday the same school year I came out to my friends and, though I had their support all the way, needed a voice there to fight for me and convince me it wasn't a problem that I wasn't the perfect "normal" person and could be myself.
I almost miss her unending preachiness because that's who she'd become to me by the end of the era - the one superstar on earth who would fight for anyone who needed it at the cost of her public image, her credibility as an artist in the minds of some, and her sales. She still supports and fights for us, but the spirit of the BTW era was freedom-fighting bandana wearing rock star turned disco queen and I kind of loved it, you know?
"Bad Kids", even though I've been a well-behaved child ( ), is pretty much the best thing ever to me. It's no HML with it's production, it's no "Bad Romance", it's no "Gypsy" - but it's so defiantly proud, so cheesy 80's in the ways I love most... it's just epic.
