I don't think the Madonna comparisons really did all that much damage, Madonna is the most successful woman in music after all.

The Telephone video was the start of her downfall, imo. Before, people irl thought she was cool/edgy/fashionable, the Telephone video was met with collective eyerolls from most people I know. The meat dress, egg, preachy interviews/music all just made it worse.

Tbh Born This Way was only a hit because people were hyped for her And then she released that atrocious video for it

I don't agree. The Telephone was like, actually a music video event. Like, an ACTUAL event. The hype was huge for that.

It all went downhill when the Alejandro video came out.

It was indeed a huge event, arguably her peak of stardom (hence the downfall), but it wasn't met with the same praise people gave her before. It wasn't eye-opening like the Bad Romance video/Paparazzi performance, but "oh Gaga she's so weird".
