I still have some hope for Artpop because, while it may not be slaying, it still is charting somewhat and DWUW or even applause have not completely freefalled. If the album was preforming like Warrior I would be much more worried.
She just needs to be like pink this era and release singles without making a big deal about to have some moderate successes and work on the next project.
If Applause and DWUW couldn't do anything, there are ZERO potential hits on ARTPOP.
DWUW is far more dire than Applause though. A highly commercial song with no big drawbacks and a sizable, decent feature that has had two remixes and a lot of promo, video notwithstanding. There's no excuse for this performance.
To be fair though, few truly huge artists have risen in the Web 2.0 world. They're bound to burn out faster. We have yet to see if any that gain huge public exposure can actually maintain any large level of success.
The second Gaga released Born This Way and it sounded like Express Yourself, it was kind of all over. That was the one time she needed her song to sound NOTHING like Madonna, because it followed the Alejandro video

Gypsy and Manicure are obvious singles choices. They're made to infect the airwaves.
Whether they would have faired better than Applause or Do What U Want is debatable. But if she wants to continue to promote her product, she'll release those, IMO.
