She almost always has put one out before the song begins to take off (starting from Part of Me and through Unconditionally).

It's because she doesn't like it for messing up Unconditionally!

I guess the switch of singles caught them unprepared.

This.
Her lyric videos are slowly becoming mini music videos. Maybe it will take a little time since she is using filmed video now. Look at Unconditionally and Roar.

I think they wanna start with this promo slowly
Getting a time for Unconditionally to take its lasts breaths and give Dark Horse the first steps for the slayage (ensuring a good longevity)
I think they weren't expecting to release Dark Horse so early so the timing between these release needs to be well planned

I think when Katy said it was time to acknowledge Dark Horse and listen to the public, she meant it was finally time to treat it as a single and start making a Lyric video and stuff. I'm sure one will come out in a week or two. Maybe sooner.
It would really boost the song imo. I hope she gets on that. And yay DH back to #4

For a song to reach #1, it requires airplay, streaming and sales to all hit their optimum potential at exactly the right time. Dark Horse's airplay is galloping ahead of its sales and streaming, and will essentially peak way ahead of schedule. Plus, its only rising so hard, so fast because the competition is piss-~p00r. I've never been wrong about a potential #1 hit (well Timber corrupted that run but i never envisaged TM failing so hard and again, lack of competitors).
Dont @ me, just nod and clap in approval for when i am right.

But it's in the top 5 on iTunes, so wouldn't sales be its most significant component right now?

What are you even talking about?
Its sales are WELL ahead of its airplay. I mean.... it is sitting in the top 10 on itunes and isn't in the top 20 on radio yet.
Its streaming is behind, but there is no music OR lyric video yet. It is already in the top 10 on spotify.
The truth is the exact opposite of what you are claiming.
You are right about literally nothing in this case.

I don't think Katy wants to perform it or even make a video for it
She obviously doesn't enjoy the song as much as uncle
But the GP is here for Dark horse.
It reminds me of Venus for Gaga
But yeah all it needs it a video probably a good time is end of january/start of febuary.
It will go #1 for sure. (If planned right)

I dont need to pray for anything. The only thing blocking that song from a potential 5wk #1 is Radio, plain and simple. Their is a demand for the song, not surprising since it has one of the best vocal perfs of 2013.
& Team will top the Hot 100 after SS #justwaitonit

Her airplay is going strong but she's just getting started, isn't she? She's not even top 10 on pop radio yet. Worst case scenario is if this performs like LFN, wherein she'd peak early in sales before her airplay picks up. Her team is obviously aware of this hence the delay of all the promo. They're probably waiting for this to have bigger airplay before they ask Katy to promote this. Remember DH is selling almost by word-of-mouth alone, and her airplay and stream points were generally unsolicited until a couple of weeks ago. This has room to blow on radio (crossing over to pop and urban), streaming (lyric and actual video), and sales (with proper live performances). DH is just getting started.

58. Lady Gaga - Do What U Want (feat. Christina Aguilera)
Are radio stations picking this up?

Mostly
...but this one was more egregious than the average instance. Usually there is at least one element of truth present.

Its sales, streaming and airplay will all peak around the same time though. It's rise is perfect.
TM is also a smash for Em & Rih, just not as big as LtWYL.

I actually heard this on KIIS FM earlier, but I don't think it has been officially sent to radio stations.
