Royals was not really a global smash. It was only a moderate hit in most countries besides North America and down under. Even in the UK it snatched no1 spot but isnt even in the top40 of the year end chart which is bizarre for a no1 song!
Roar was huge pretty much everywhere.
Roar was definitely bigger in the UK charts, but it's not actually very unusual for a #1 song to miss the year-end top 40. Numerous ones have even missed the year-end top 100 completely.
You know our faves are doing too well when we're arguing "oooOOooooh my fave sold 4.2 million copies of her single and YOUR fave only sold 4.1 MILLION!! What a flop hhihihihihihihihihihi"
At least we're platinum.
It's even worse when they talk about who flopped less, like Uncle x DWYW

Tennis Court has all the markings of a smash. It's already spent 8 weeks in the Hot 100 based on buzz alone and is hailed by many as Lorde ha best sing.
All they gotta do is update the music video - I love it and find it entrancing but you know how basic the GP is these days.

That's true. Roar was bigger than Royals. A shame that Team will probably underperform and not introduce Lorde to European countries

I love the video too, but you're right-- it's too old now to make an impact on the song's potential performance.

Not bad at all.
Stop please. If you start bring numbers use at least valid ones, not some numbers that you grabbed from air.
In UK year end chart
