I don't think it's that hard to have a diverse discography, when you've been in the business for like.... forever? 
ALSO, I don't think people are comparing the instruments they play  LOL It's how they play their instruments  Gaga is definitely superior, as seen in a lot of her performances. She was also classically trained, and note that she has a BIG BIG voice to accompany her mastery of the piano.

Gaga may play the piano all she wants but Madonna is better at executing her ideas and concepts
Madonna’s influence is undeniable, I can image M singing Donatella, artpop and sexx dream. I like gaga and Artpop is actually fun but she’s far more limited than Madonna, M actually has a wider scope of VISION.
Gaga’s discography largely revolves around dance music, be it hardcore EDM or just europop or retro or trap. She has a lot of images but she can’t take the risk of completely reinventing herself musically and that’s where Madonna WINS

Gaga is definitely the better vocalist.
Gaga is a songwriter and producer. But so is Madonna, and is much better at it than Gaga.
(for those who dont know the difference between production and songwriting, songwriting includes both, writing lyrics and composing melodies, while production describes mostly mastering, arranging, mixing and ingeneering the sound)
So all in all, gaga is a more technically skilled musician, while Madonna is the better overall artist - much better at creating songs, expressing ideas, visions and presenting them to people.

Let's stay on topic 
And Gaga has done R&B, Hip-hop, EDM, Jazz, Country, Rock, different kinds of pop etc. At the same time, legendary and iconic musicians have worked and have praised Gaga (Sting, Tony Bennet, Kiss band members, Elton john etc.) in what? within ONLY 5 years.
