She broke through without a hit single in most places including the US. that's the truth. She isn't alone either. The main basis of most new artists' success stories is
not hit singles. It certainly wasn't for Justin Bieber. Sure, "Baby" was a hit, but that wasn't the dominant factor in his ascend to success. The establishment of a dedicated following is what catapults most artists to fame these days. Plenty of artists who really are nobodies have hit singles, but that's all they have. You're right about artists needing hit singles to introduce them to the public most of the time, but when speaking of Beyonce(which is whom we were originally discussing), that job was done and taken care of long ago.
She doesn't need a hit single at this point, and she definitely doesn't need an introduction.
