WA and TOTGA are not traditional ballads the way U is. They were mid tempo, quirky and hooky. The GP likes that about katy. U just took itself way too seriously, had a weak melody, and did not play to Katy's strengths (especially the snoozefest of a video).
My impression first listen on 10/16 was "oh no, this is not good." Heck. I liked WOA better. And that this was trying to be kelly clarkson, who I like, but it didn't play to Katy's quirky originality. It came off generic and boring.
Thankfully we have moved on to DH and it seems that radio and the GP are in line with my sentiments.
