Yet how many of those years was she actually relevant?
The 4 era only lasted a few months. The sales are pretty impressive.
I mean, it's true in terms of promo but LOT was huge throughout 2011 and into 2012. D4U was a big Urban hit in 2012 aswell. And Party was big on Urban into 2012 too. lol.
BEYONCE may not have any promo before the release, but Beyonce herself has had a whole year of rebuilding the brand after 4. The surprise release was just the cherry on top. Imagine if they actually released the album out of the blue without the Superbowl, the documentary, the pepsi deal,...it would do worse than 4.
Beyonce's team is doing as well, if not better than Katy's back in 2011. Gaga should hire them.

Urban will never abandon Bey. I think she'll keep getting Platinum albums for a long time, even when she's not that "popular". Kinda like Mary J Blige but to a bigger extent.
Maybe she started her career then when DC was formed, but they didn't really become a household name till 1999/2000 and didn't peak till 2001.
