It's true, my dad is tan but my mom is a natural red head with very fair skin and his family was so proud when they got married. And they were both born in Mexico. Skin also ties into height in Mexico, like it's not good to be short because the indigenous tribes are short

I live in England and there is so much interracial dating so there are a lot of light skinned black people around and I would not say they are more attractive than dark skinned individuals. A lot of the light skinned girls I see look like Katy Brand. I am not sure whether or not the obsession with ''Pop Culture'' and Entertainment helps with this self image Black people have since it is mostly a promotion of those with European phenotypes but it must be said that the Entertainment industry markets to the majority race so I can't get mad over that. It just gets frustrating when it ends up affecting how African and Asian individuals who don't live in the West and how they change themselves to look more European.

Lightskin/darkskin isn't just in the Black community; it's in others as well. I've heard someone say to a child's mother, "your daughter is so pretty, it's a shame she's dark" and I'm just sitting there like:
(Of course, I've tried skin lightening techniques like turmeric powder and lemon juice because my skin tone is really uneven; it's a pain to maintain.)

The same thing happens in India, lighter skinned women with lighter eyes (things that are considered 'Caucasian' features) are considered more beautiful then darker skinned women. It's almost impossible for a dark skinned Indian to make it big in India. And there are even commercials for skin bleaching products like it's just a normal every day thing
But yeah, look at the popular black musicians these days. Rihanna, Beyonce, Chris Brown, all light skinned. Of course there are some darker skinned musicians that make it big as well but the lighter skinned ones always have an advantage.
