What a redundant conversation. Why does Pokemon need GOTY awards or any critic awards to justify its self as a good game. Does it make it any less of a good franchise because? Does it make it any less globally loved around the world enjoyed by millions of fans? Please The Last Of Us was a zombie survival game released at the peak of the zombie craze along with 40 other games that deal with the same subject. So it can cling onto its GOTY award, and then be forgotten by the next fad.
Pokemon has always been critically praised, its metacritic scores are always positive. Is it the perfect game? No not by any means and fans are always poking at GameFreak to change it, and they listen (sometimes). In its almost 20 years since R/B/Y how is it possible that a "bad game" sells as much as it did? Yet you call the fans mindless drones, yet you're over hear clinging to any "Top 10 List", you buy just as much into the propaganda as any of the Pokemonsters do. Don't think your taste is superior because you like a game that's GOTY.
And people that constantly whine about Pokemon's rehashed mechanics, and think it needs to be a tradition Final Fantasy Japanese RPG, with glossy realistic graphics and more violence and some deep level story line are full of ****. They're always talking out of their asses. Pokemon has always been about you filling in your own journey with your own Pokemon, no player has the same experience playing a Pokemon game, there is no guide on how to unlock a dungeon, and you can play any way you want too. The story isn't done just because you beat the last boss.
A damn mess at this thread. If you seriously think Pokemon isn't a respected video game franchise in the industry then your ignorance is LIVID and REAL. Its ****ing iconic, its a cultural force that spawns generations of generations. So what if it doesn't with any trophies. It'll be loved for so much more years and praised for so many more, more then The Last Of Us or any other GOTY Game will be.
