But then what about Bangerz? More promotion, bigger singles, bigger media attention, yet she didn't sell more than Gaga.
Katy had tons and tons of prmotion, lots more than Gaga - only last week Katy did NRJ awards, The Voice Germany, Ellen, X Factor UK, X Factor Italy, but still only outsold Gaga by not even a big difference despite a smash single and lots more promotion - which Gaga didn't have.

People saying Gaga had so much promotion are delusional. Applause had 2 performances in its first 2 months, and Gaga hasn't even been outside the 3 major markets yet for promotion. Her album promo is lots less than Katy and Miley, nd she's selling about as much as them.

The Fame itself didn't sell 15m. That's the combined sales of it and TFM.

Compared to her previous efforts it did justifiably poor. Gold in the US after 2 months is not that big of a deal, especially not for her standards. Applause was a moderate hit and just like the album it did best in the US. That's why US artists are always lucky to rely on their native market, a quite supportive market that even my fave benefits from (the gap between UK/Europe and US i.e. is significant). Nevertheless, these WW numbers are decent and we'll see how much it sold over Christmas but I fear it will soon freeze to its final numbers.
