Not sure why anyone would expect that. The people who get their gift cards are the people who generally aren't on iTunes buying music every week. Thusly, older songs like Royals and Wrecking Ball get the massive boosts, while newer songs fly down the list.

I am obviously exaggerating a bit, but I am just saying that the overall sales boosts for songs this year might not be as big as we're expecting. A lot of us overestimated last year (I know I did ).

Now with Spotify becoming slightly more prominent in digital music, I'm interested to see how much of a factor that has on this year's Xmas digital boom
