Katy didn't ruin anyone's career or anything, but I still think Applause would have done a lot better if it wasn't competing with Roar. People would have accepted anything after Blurred Lines and Applause is way better than BL.

Nah. People were loving Blurred Lines at the time. In fact, it was above Applause on iTunes for a while. Plus, people were already focusing more on Miley so Gaga would have gotten overshadowed either way, and Applause is still a dud lead single.
